This policy (together with our terms of use and any other documents referred to on it) sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us. Please read the following carefully to understand our views and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it. We keep certain basic information when you visit our website and recognise the importance of keeping that information secure and letting you know what we will do with it.

For the purpose of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Act 2018 (the Act), the data controller is Dean & Smedley Ltd of 65 Horninglow Road, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, DE14 2PP (registration number Z4756580).

This policy only applies to our site. If you leave our site via a link or otherwise, you will be subject to the policy of that website provider. We have no control over that policy or the terms of the website and you should check their policy before continuing to access the site.

Information we may collect from you

We may collect and process the following data about you:

  • Information that you provide by filling in forms on our site www.deanandsmedley.com ("our site"). When the provided information is for requesting a service (repeat prescription service), this is forwarded to the requested branch and not stored on our site. Your personal information is only used for the purposes stated when collected and is not kept after its use.
  • Information provided in job application forms. Application forms will be forwarded to our Head Office and do not remain on our site. Unsuccessful applications are destroyed when the application process ends, but can optionally be kept by us for an additional 6 months if your consent is given.
  • If you book an appointment for one of our pharmacy services, we will collect your name and contact information and use that information to send you a reminded of your appointment. We may also collect some additional information (such as your date of birth) if it required for us to provide that service to you. We use a third party service called HasHealth to manage bookings for pharmacy services (see third party services section below).
  • If you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence.
  • We may also ask you for information when you report a problem with our site.
  • Details of your visits to our site including, but not limited to, traffic data, location data, weblogs, operating system, browser usage and other communication data, whether this is required for our own billing purposes or otherwise and the resources that you access. Information collected in this way is only stored in an anonymised state and cannot be linked to you.

IP addresses

We may collect information about your computer, including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration. This is statistical data about our users' browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual and we will not collect personal information in this way.

Cookie policy

A cookie is a small data file that is stored on your computer, by websites that you visit, that can later be read by the same website that placed it. It allows websites to know who you are as you navigate to different pages and to store preferences. This policy details our use of cookies and the related web storage API (local storage and session storage).

We only use cookies that are essential for the operation of our website. We do not use tracking or analytics cookies, web beacons, tracking pixels, or other tracking technologies. We also limit the use of third-party scripts that can install their own tracking technologies.

We may use the following on our site:

  • PHPSESSID: This is a session cookie that allows the site to remember who you are when you travel to different pages.
  • Applications: We use the local storage API to save application forms on your computer as they are filled out so applicants don't have to complete forms in a single session and to save data if a crash occurs. These are stored with names that start with 'dandsApplication' (eg. dandsApplicationStandard, dandsApplicationFoundationYearApplication etc) and are deleted after the application form is submitted. Use of the local storage API can be disabled on application forms using the tick box at the top of the page.
  • Turnstile: We use a captcha service from Cloudflare to reduce spam and abuse on application forms and pages with a contact form. This will briefly use the storage API with data that's set by the domain: challenges.cloudflare.com. If you're using a compatible device or browser, turnstile will request a private access token instead.
  • Google: We use Google maps to display pharmacy locations and to find your nearest pharmacy based on your location. This service does not currently use cookies although this could change in the future. Clicking on links to get directions will open an external site (google.com, or a maps app on your device).
  • Facebook: We get news stories on our homepage by parsing content from our Facebook page. We don't load Facebook scripts to do this but we do load assets (such as photos and video previews). Clicking on content from our news feed will open the relevant post on Facebook.
